I discovered jazz, what I call "Real Jazz", the jazz music created between the mid 1920s and the late 1940s by great performers such as Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton, Bessie Smith and many others, when I was in my early teens. This love has stayed with me for over 50 years and is a major inspiration for my art. I try to capture this joyful, brash and exuberant music in free flowing, rhythmic colour.
